Went on sick parade this a.m. with this foot of mine and got put on two days light duty, which was sufficient to get off this scheme tonight. I thought of going but sixteen miles is quite a hike and it’s been raining off and on so I thought “to heck with it!”
According to their briefing they have the Home Guard, the Eighth Army (what a hope with those guys after them!), the civil police, all RAF stations in the vicinity, and fourteen mobile SPs after them. If any of them get through, it will be a miracle.
They stripped everybody and gave them a really thorough search - wouldn’t let ’em take anything! Even took away their 1250s and gave them a card issued for the exercise. It would be fun if they either shortened the distance (sixteen miles) or lifted some of the bans - they’ve just reduced it to a hike.
Got three letters from Barb today, a letter from Mom, and one from Janke – good show. Didn’t write any in return yet. In the past five days I’ve received eight letters from Barb alone (she’s a wonderful girl!).
Apparently it’s almost certain that we’ll be posted Friday, but time will tell.
Anyway, the Battle Course is over as tomorrow morning is rest, afternoon is a lecture, and Thursday morning we turn in our boots and stuff.
