DIARY NOTES

Location
RAF Bomber Command, 115 Squadron at Witchford, near Ely

Parade - Inspection

Ely - Small town 20 kms north of Cambridge

Regal - Movie theatre

Alert and all clear - Loud sirens to warn of air raids, and that the danger has passed
July 11, 1944 (Tuesday)

On parade as usual – 3 bods missing out of 4! I told them after that they either smartened up after leave or I’d get a new crew, which they didn’t like very much.

Ran around and got ready all morning and got a taxi to Ely about two. Got me in in five minutes flat! Caught 2:15 to London with plenty to spare. Got in town about five p.m., and got a room at the Dominion Officers’ Club.

Ate at Marble Arch Café and went to the Regal across the street afterwards. Saw “Up In Arms” with Danny Kaye and Dinah Shore – very good!

The alert and all clear have gone at least six times since I arrived in town and the place seems deserted after all the people who used to be here.
